Over the last few years, I’ve learnt heaps about internet marketing from many of the internet marketing gurus - the Internet Marketing Center (Corey Rudl (dec.)/Derek Gehl), Yanik Silver, Mike Filsaime, Perry Marshall, Rosalind Gardner, John Reese & several others. All these guys produce great quality products, but one of the biggest things I’ve learnt is to do what they do, & not always what they say (please note, this rule doesn’t necessarily apply to any of the gurus I just mentioned).
Ok, so I don’t mean ignore every single email you get from any internet marketer, or read their courses & not do what they suggest, but it would pay to do some research before investing in a product or service they recommend.
Why?
Well, most of the top internet marketing gurus are basically honest, decent people but most of them (unless they’re affiliate marketers) have a product or products they would like you to buy. Naturally, from their point of view, it’s the best product for the job…but this isn’t always the case.
When I first started out, I purchased a whole heap of products from one particular guru. Once you bought one product, they’d tell you that you needed another one of their products & so on. They were constantly giving you reasons why their products were the best, & why everyone who didn’t have/use their products (even other gurus) was settling for second best or losing money.
Two years later, after using their software for a while, I’ve discovered how wrong they were. Sure, their products do what they say they will, but there are actually much better products for the job out there…& much cheaper too.
So how do you know what products to use?
Look at what the vast majority of the internet marketing gurus are using. Not just one or two, but half a dozen or more to get an accurate idea of what’s the best to use.
Many of these guys are making millions a year off the internet, so firstly they have the money to invest in any product/software they want & will obviously have the best they can get. Secondly, they would have to be using good quality products/software to keep their multi-million dollar businesses running smoothly.
Have a look around over the next few days & see what products they have to help run their sites. Sign up for their newsletters so you can see what autoresponder service they use, look at their sales pages to see who they use to process their credit card payments, join their affiliate programs to learn what affiliate software they use.
All the information you need to find out what products you should use to build you site is out there…you just need to look at what the gurus are doing, & not necessarily rely on what they’re saying.
