The number of small business ideas you can come up with is only limited by the extent of your imagination. Believe it or not though, you don’t need to come up with a completely unique, never before thought of business idea for your small business to be a success. You just need to be able to provide a service or product to a market that isn’t satisfied.
What kind of market is an unsatisified market?
- A market where the service or product is already being provided, but the demand from the customers exceeds the ability of the current businesses to satisfy.
- A market where no one is currently providing the desired product or service.
- A market where the service or product is being provided (maybe even almost to saturation point), but the current businesses aren’t doing things as well as they could be. People are unsatisified with the service, product quality or any other aspect & so would readily go with another business who could provide them with the experience they want.
As with any business, the best way to come up with great small business ideas, is to look in areas that you have a genuine interest in, or like to do as a hobby.
Why?
If you have a real interest & love for your small business, you will find it much easier to work in your business each day, provide outstanding customer service, have the drive to keep working through difficult times & are far more likely to keep your business long term. You can try & tell yourself that it doesn’t matter if you don’t really like what you’re doing, but the reality is, that at some stage in your business - it may be in a few months, or years - you will want out! Also, if you don’t truly have passion for what you are doing, it will rub off onto your customers & the profitability of your small business will suffer.
What if you can’t think of any viable small business ideas on something you’re interested in?
Keep thinking :-)…more than likely, there is a profitable business you could start.
If all else fails, & you really can’t think of anything you can still start a small business on a topic you’re not overly passionate about, but you most likely need to be prepared to hire staff to help you run your business. Having staff to help take the burden of some aspects of the business will help you keep your sanity, enabling you to run your business better & for longer. Staff don’t necessarily need to be strangers, but may be friends or family members who are quite happy to do the jops in your business that you don’t want to do.
Stay tuned for great small business ideas over the coming months…
